Single-Engine Attack Line Drill
Deploy one attack line, establish a pump discharge pressure, and maintain water while the crew advances and flows. This is an original FireOps Calc drill organizer for NFPA 1410-style training and department-level practice.
Use local standards: Set staffing, time benchmark, PPE, water flow, hose load, and pass/fail criteria from your department SOP and official NFPA documents. This page does not reproduce the official NFPA standard.
Objective
Build a repeatable first-line deployment with correct pump engagement, line charge, target PDP, and communication.
Setup
- Engine spotted in training area
- One preconnected attack line or static hose load
- Designated nozzle operator and backup
- Pump operator at panel
- Evaluator with stopwatch and score sheet
Evolution flow
Crew announces line selection and intended flow.
Engineer places pump in gear and confirms water source plan.
Attack line is deployed to the target point.
Engineer charges the line smoothly and sets target PDP from the calculator, pump card, or department standard.
Nozzle team confirms pattern/stream and flows water.
Engineer maintains pressure and records final PDP, flow, and issues found.
Engineer focus
- Pump engaged and correct tank/water source selected
- Nozzle pressure and hose length recognized
- Line charged without water hammer
- Pressure adjusted based on actual flow and communication
- Kinks, couplings, and line stretch checked
Common mistakes
- Charging before the line is ready
- Using the wrong nozzle pressure
- Forgetting elevation or appliance loss when present
- No communication between nozzle and pump panel
