Two-Line Attack Evolution
Deploy and pump two attack lines while maintaining safe pressure, flow, and communication. This is an original FireOps Calc drill organizer for NFPA 1410-style training and department-level practice.
Use local standards: Set staffing, time benchmark, PPE, water flow, hose load, and pass/fail criteria from your department SOP and official NFPA documents. This page does not reproduce the official NFPA standard.
Objective
Practice adding a second line without losing control of the first line or over-pumping either crew.
Setup
- Engine with two attack lines available
- Two hose teams
- Pump operator and evaluator
- Water supply from tank or hydrant depending on department SOP
Evolution flow
First line deploys and receives water.
Engineer establishes stable PDP for line one.
Second line deploys to a separate target.
Engineer opens second discharge smoothly and watches pressure behavior.
Both lines flow together.
Crews report stream quality; engineer documents pressure, flow, and intake/tank status.
Engineer focus
- Gate second line slowly
- Monitor intake pressure and tank water
- Do not chase pressure aggressively
- Understand whether lines require different pressures
- Communicate before adding or shutting down lines
Common mistakes
- Opening the second discharge too fast
- Letting tank water run low without a supply plan
- Assuming both lines need the same PDP
- Failing to identify a kink after pressure changes
